What is Rummy?
It is a card game and be played among two persons competing with 2 decks of cards and 2 jokers. In Rummy, a player must make a declaration by picking or discarding a card from the two piles (decks). What are Rummy Sequences?
A rummy sequence is a group of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. There are two kinds of sequences that can be formed; a pure sequence and an impure sequence. To win the game of rummy you need at least one pure sequence in your rummy hand.
What is a pure sequence?
In a pure sequence, there should be three or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order or in sequence. A player cannot use a joker or wild card to form a pure sequence in Rummy.
For example, a pure sequence is where three cards of heart in the same order like 4,5,6 have been used or four cards of diamond in the same order like 5,6,7,8 have been used.
What is an impure sequence?
As the name suggests, an impure sequence is a group of cards where cards from different suits have been used. Also, there has been a use of joker or wild card.
For example, an impure sequence is where two cards of the same suit like of heart and one card of diamond have been used to form a sequence.
What are sets?
When three or more cards of the same value but different suits have been used, it makes a set. To form a set a player can use a joker or wild card.
For example, three aces of different suits make a valid set. Similarly, any same number from different suits can be used to form a set.
While forming a set, this should be taken into account that a player can not use two or more cards of the same suit to form a set. It will be considered an invalid declaration.
Rules to play Rummy?

- Forming pure sequences and valid sets will make you win the game. So always make sure you form the sequences in the beginning only.
- Try to discard high points cards and replace them with joker or wild cards. In case you lose the game, the point loads will be less.
- Try to pick cards from closed-deck rather than discarded cards pile. As picking from the discard pile will give clues to your opponents.
- The use of Joker cards is crucial. Try to use them accurately in pure sequences.
- Before making a declaration, make sure you double-check your sequences and sets. An invalid declaration can make you lose the game.
Terms used in Rummy –
While playing Rummy, there are some common terms that need to be understood.
Rummy Table:
The Rummy Table is where the game is played. There are two to six players allowed to sit on a Rummy Table for each game.
Jokers and Wild Cards:
Jokes and Wild Cards play an important role in Rummy. They are selected randomly at the beginning of the game and can be used as replacements to form pure sequences.
Draw and Discard:
When a player picks up a card from the deck, it is called drawing and when a player draws a card, he needs to get rid of an existing card and it is called discard.
Sorting of Cards:
Arranging the cards at the beginning of the game is called Sorting of Cards. Sorting helps to form sets and sequences.
Drop:
When a player leaves the game, it’s called Drop. It can be done at any point in the game. If a player makes a drop at the beginning, the player will lose 20 points, in the middle the player will lose 40 points and the last drop will cost 80 points.
